Another shot of the car when we picked it up showing the quarter. Fairly straight and the rust did not look that extensive. I have seen this level of rust referred to in ads as "A little rust in the quarters" Later you will see why this is a red flag when buying a car.

Wow! This is why I like dipping a car because it lets you really see what you got left. Compare the car before stripping and after and you will see how the quarter just turned ugly.

Back into the shop for a lot of deciding what to do. We finally came to the conclusion that the panel could not be saved but needed to go.

Here is what it looks like after surgery. We made the cuts with a 4" zip wheel on a hand held grinder and then ground the edges smooth with a rolux disc. There are a row of spot welds along the bottom lip at the rocker, along the wheelwell and along the trunk extension and taillight panel that have to be drilled out and split. Throughout this project I used a set of spot weld cutters from Snap-On that stayed sharp. A good tip is to keep a small container of oil and keep dipping them into it as you go.
