A closer look at the short block shows us clean cylinder bores and no sludge in the valley. I have most of the original service records of this car and he kept the oil changed regularly and saw too the maintenance and I am the benefactor of his diligence.

Presto, Its Magic! Actually this is the result of about 40 hours of hard work. When we tore the shortblock apart everything was good except for a few frozen piston pins. We took a ball hone and zinged the cylinders then scrubbed them out and put a micrometer to them and it was still a standard bore with no ridge. We cleaned up the pistons and replaced two that the rings were stuck in with some a freind had under his bench for 25 years. After that the crank was polished and we put in a Cloyes double roller chain, Melling high-volume pump and a ring and bearing set ffrom Mancini Racing and it was good to go.

I sent the heads to a local machine shop where they boiled them then replaced two valves, shimmed the springs, did a complete valve job with hardened seats and decked the heads striaght. I also had them polish the crank and turn the flywheel and the tab was under $500.00 which I thought was great! I had a freind rebuild and detail the carb then a new fuel pump and line kit from Year One finished off the fuel system.

Every part on the engine was detailed before it went back on by blasting or stripping it and painting or plating it. I blasted the exhaust manifolds then coated them with Eastwood's hi temp coating and I regret it already. After 500 miles the coating is starting to rust. These manifolds were sand blasted and degreased before it was applied then it was cured per their instructions and still the results are less than stellar. I will have to pull them off this winter, strip them again and use the POR15 system that I have heard works much better. Sorry to vent but it frustrates me not because of the cost but the hassles of removing the parts and having to re-install them. So there you have it, a brand new 35 year old 383 just as the factory made it.
