Final Bodywork

Don't forget to put all the sealer around the seams in the cowl. Even this will not be seen if you ever get your car wet without this sealer you will have very wet carpet. The same process of glopping the sealer on then brushing it smooth works well here. Be sure to work it into the seam to ensure a tight seal.

Here is where Mopar used a different approach to seam sealing. A finer finish sealer is used on all the exterior seams that were not leaded. This is then painted over in body color and makes the transition between the two pieces a lot smoother than without it. The best way to apply this is to mask off the seam and apply the sealer, smooth it then peel off the tape.

Don't forget to seal all the door & trunk lid seams as these were done this way from the factory. This is one step that dipping causes in that it peels off all the old sealer. On the other hand it also removes all the rust hiding behind the sealer so I guess it is a good trade.

The amount of block sanding is very evident in this picture. With the big 7-foot quarters and wide expanses of doors & fenders blocking a Charger is almost a career instead of a job but it is what makes the paint perfect.

It is imperative the car is assembled with all the door, hood & trunk latches in place to ensure correct alignment during the sanding stage. A little bit of time here will be rewarded with a paint job that will receive nothing but compliments.

This is after the last sanding with the car before it gets is coat of sealer then paint. It has been a long time since the Charger was green and I am looking forward to that day!
