I used the original wheel well trim to ensure that the quarter skin and the wheel well lined up correctly. A lot of care in the fitting of the quarter to the wheel well will make this job look perfect when the car is painted and assembled.

Here is the replacement tail light panel, the valence, the corner cap and the quarter all welded together. I spent one weekend working on each piece to make all these parts come together and fit tightly and correctly together. The more time you spend in fitting and alignment the better it will look and the less work with filler you will have to do later.

A shot inside of the trunk shows the replacement wheel well welded to the trunk hinge support and the trunk floor. Since the hinge has to come out to mount the quarter panel make sure that you have made alignment holes in both the support and the new wheel well before you remove it from the old quarter and trunk lip.

Nice, crisp original body lines sure make the work worth it. Even all scratched up and in four colors the great shape of the 68-70 Chargers is very pronounced and clean. I thought it would never get to this stage but all my hard work has been rewarded with a clean quarter panel on the car.

If I had to do another quarter on a Mopar I would take the time and expense of finding a rust-free example over using any of the repop quarter panel junk that is out there for sale now. The fit and body lines are so much better it is unreal.

Here is where the tricky part comes in on mounting a full factory quarter. Mopar wove their body panels together in a most unfriendly manner and they have to go back that way to fit correctly. Note which panels are spot welded to which in this area because if you get them wrong the panel will fit very poorly. If you look on the trunk filler panel behind the rear window you can see some of the marks made on the car with a Sharpie. It makes the most sense to put your notes right where you will need them so don't be bashful about marking up the body.

Well 10 rolls of welding wire, four tanks of gas, over 350 Rolux discs. 100 cutting wheels and two boxes of band aides the sheet metal phase of this car is nearing the end, just a few little areas to touch up and then it on to the real fun.....bodywork!
