Hood

After a little time with Mr. Grinder and a few touch-ups with the welder the graft is now a permanent part of the new hood. Be sure to start with pretty aggressive grit for the grinding as it removes metal fast and does not allow as much heat build up as finer grit. I like to start with a 24 grit Roluc 4” disc and work my way up to a 36.

A couple coats of filler and sanding with an air file and a DA makes the hood look it is going to come out great. Be sure to work the metal so any filler you have to use is minimal. Don't be afraid to spread the filler out over a large area just make sure it is not glopped on thick instead of working the metal first.

Next a light coat of finisher smoother out the surface and it was on to some hand sanding to final shape the nose.

Here is the repair all smoothed down and ready for primer. All the filler is smoothed and none is any thicker than 1/16”. The total time for this repair took about four hours and I was rewarded with a nice solid metal nose on my hood.

A coat of high build and it is off to the body shop for some final touches.
