From Dip 2

My baby is home again and nice and clean. For those of you wjho have never heard of the e-coating process, the car is first stripped then cleaned to remove all traces of stripper. The parts are then put on a rack and dipped into a large tank filled with an electrostatic primer that is charged one way while the body is then zapped with the opposite charge and the material is electrically bonded to the metal.

The best thing about the e-coat process is that it gets insdie all the seams, frame rails and everywhere that a paint wont. This process is especially important after dipping, since the dip is a liquid it flows into all the cracks and corners of the part to remove all hidden rust. Since the e-coat is also a liquid it will also flow into these areas and seal them forever.

Also in this set of pictures you can see that I have mounted the shell on a rotisserie. Up to this point the shell did not have enough structural integrity to do this but I am diggin' it now. I have included plans for one of these great tools on the homepage. While this one belongs to a freind, the one in the plans has gotten good reviews and woud work well for any b-body Mopar.

It is so handy to be able to rotate the shell around and make the work easy to get at. Since I have to fill many pit marks in the sheetmetal that I did not replace, having it at an easy work height is a dream.

The interior came out very well and the seams in the welds on the floor pans are barly visable. I will still take the time to fill and sand them smooth even though the carpet and seats will cover them or is that just being a bit anal?

This rack bolted through the valence into the bumper bolt locations and fit snug against the back of the car. It is so well balanced that I can spin it by myself with no problems.

Since the e-coat is shiny I can see and mark a lot of the spots that will need attention later.
